Relief is slowly giving way to recovery in the Asheville and Western North Carolina area after Tropical Storm Helene left communities devastated.

More than 4 million customers are waking up without power across the South Friday morning in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The storm is expected to slow down soon and stall over the Tennessee Valley Friday night and through the weekend, dropping another 6 inches of rain.

Initial impacts from Helene — which hit the Carolinas as a tropical storm — are over. But hundreds of thousands are still without power, dozens of roads are closed, and risks of flooding remain.
