The Barrow County Board of Education has approved two new safety measures nearly a month after the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School. The board approved a measure on Tuesday to add a phone in every classroom and add eight new school resource officers in the district.

At an emotional school board meeting Tuesday evening, the Barrow County Board of Education approved eight more school resource officers (SROs) for the district.

I am not satisfied, I’m not going to be satisfied until they have a metal detector in their school,” Parent Tinya Brown said.

The Barrow County Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of more school police officers on Tuesday evening.

Almost a month after the deadly shooting inside Apalachee High School, security is still top of mind for parents in Barrow County. On Tuesday night, the district held its first school board meeting since the shooting on Sept 4.
