Israel succeeded Wednesday in its year-long mission to kill Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the man accused of being one of the masterminds of the October 7, 2023 attacks.

Sinwar, 62, served as Hamas’ leader in Gaza since 2017 and was named the group’s overall leader in August after Ismail Haniyeh, the group’s political chief, was killed in Iran—an attack Hamas blamed on Israel, which has not publicly acknowledged any involvement.

Liam Payne, a former member of the boy band One Direction, died on Wednesday after falling off of a third-story hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Before his fall, staff at the hotel where he was staying reportedly called the police about a guest who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Payne was 31 years old.
